3 Kick Sets To Level Up Your Swim
A common misconception that I hear over and over is that triathletes don’t need to work on their kick! Well that is just plain wrong! If you believe that, then I feel sad for you! I have come to the conclusion that many triathletes believe this because kicking is hard to do, it is exhausting and people hate working on things they are bad at! There are so many reasons why kicking can improve your swimming and lucky for you, I have already covered that topic in depth here! Give it a read and consider that myth debunked!
Now that I have made you feel bad about not wanting to kick, let’s get to work on fixing that! In this article, I am giving you 3 kick sets that will both crush your legs and make you a stronger more well rounded swimmer for your next triathlon. These sets are perfect sets to get your heart rate up so they will make awesome pre or post main set…sets…boy that is confusing! Time to welcome those jelly legs with open arms and get to work!
Set 1:
2-4x: :30 rest between rounds
4 x 25 @ :05 rest streamline kick on your back, build
4 x 50 @ :10 rest alternate 25 build/25fast with a board
2 x 25 @ :10 rest max effort kick focusing on fast feet in streamline
Set 2:
8 x 25 @ :10 rest with a board alternating 25 tombstone kicking/25 kick with fast feet
4 x 100 @ :10 rest streamline kick on your back alternate 50 build/50 fast
8 x 25 @ :10 rest alternate 3 sprint kick/1 easy recovery kick
4 x 200 @ :10 rest all fast kick with fins your choice of on your stomach or back
Set 3:
2x: 1:00 rest between rounds
20 x 25 @ :05 rest alternating 25 cruise kick/25 sprint kick your choice of board or not
Bonus Set:
2-4x: 1:00 rest between rounds
4 x 25 @ :05 rest build kick with a board
2 x 50 @ :10 rest fast kick wearing Aqualogix Hybrid fins
4 x 25 @ :10 rest all sprint kick
